About the Program.
-
What is MassHive, Inc.?
MassHive is a mentorship-based nonprofit that pairs middle school girls with trained high school mentors. Through weekly check-ins, monthly workshops, and community events, we help girls build confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging.
-
Who can join MassHive, Inc.?
Our mentees are typically girls in grades 6–8. Our mentors are high school students (grades 9–12) who are passionate about helping younger peers thrive. All participants are from Massachusetts communities.
-
Where does the program take place?
MassHive works with schools, libraries, and community centers across Massachusetts. Mentors and mentees meet in safe, adult-supervised spaces and attend workshops at local partner sites.
-
How are mentors selected?
Mentors complete an application, attend an interview, and participate in training sessions. We look for empathy, responsibility, and a genuine interest in supporting others.
-
How are mentor/mentee matches made?
We match based on shared interests, personality fit, location, and grade level. Each pair is supported by a program advisor who checks in regularly.
-
How often do mentors and mentees meet?
Pairs connect weekly (in-person or virtually, depending on location and school policy) and attend monthly workshops as part of the full Hive community.
-
What kind of workshops do you offer?
Our workshops cover topics like leadership, self-esteem, conflict resolution, identity, friendship, and goal-setting. They’re interactive, fun, and designed by youth development professionals.
-
Do mentors lead workshops?
Yes! High school mentors help co-lead some sessions, giving them hands-on leadership experience while modeling growth for their mentees.
-
Is there a cost to participate?
No — MassHive is free for all participants thanks to the generosity of donors, grants, and community support.
-
Is it safe?
Yes. All mentors are trained, screened, and supervised. Mentors and mentees never meet one-on-one unsupervised, and all events follow clear safety guidelines.
-
